Talk on Colour & Tone by Paul Arnott,

26 January 2016

We are really lucky to have Paul Arnott as one of our members. We had a very interesting talk/demo from Paul on 26 January about colour and tone. Paul started by explaining the colour wheel, identifying the three primary colours (red, yellow and blue) and then the secondary colours (green, orange and purple). He said that most pigments were not true to the colour that their name might imply, but were usually either warmer or cooler and explained why, when mixing pigments, you might sometimes get muddy colours as a result, and, on the other hand, how to create vibrant mixes. He then talked about tone and showed how to create depth in paintings by the use of stronger and lighter tones. A thoroughly absorbing and extremely useful afternoon. Very many thanks once again to Paul.

Notes on the above subjects are here. I hope you find them useful.
