Lisvane Art Workshop

31st Annual Exhibition November 2015

Lisvane Art Workshop's Annual Exhibition on November 6th and 7th was once again affected by the adverse weather. The Friday night was very quiet with only 38 visitors, but Saturday was much better and we almost caught up to last year’s figure, but the attendance of only 103 was again below our previous record low. This year we included works by many of our newer members as well as those by our more established members. Most of our visitors praised the standard of work. We really appreciate those visitors who did come to see what was on show, but  the amount of work involved in putting on this exhibition can hardly be justified any longer in view of the falling attendances.  Once the dust has settled, we shall be considering the future of the exhibition - we could we move it to a different time of year, combine it with the Festival exhibition in June, or have an exhibition every other year instead of annually. I should welcome any opinions, both from members or non-members.

With the lower number of visitors, we naturally sold fewer paintings than usual - only four framed paintings, plus 5 unframed and 3 prints. Six of the 20 artists exhibiting made sales.

We reverted back to asking visitors to choose their single favourite painting as we felt it was too much of a task to choose three as they did last year. This year's most favourite was “Winter Sun” by Trevor Hill with 9 votes. Second was new member Alison Down with her watercolour of ‘Cafe Scene, Buis-les-Baronnes, Provence’ with 7 votes. Thanks once again to all our visitors for casting their votes. 43 paintings attracted at least one vote.

You can see some of the paintings that were hanging in the Exhibition Gallery - some others are in the Members Galleries. I have included the prices in the gallery, but please bear in mind that, since the exhibition, the painting may have been sold or revised or may no longer be available.
